Welcome from the head teacher

I am delighted to be the first Head Teacher of this amazing new school. I’d like to share with you a little of what we have in store, and some of the things that particularly drew me to join Mariposa.

What would our world be like if we nurtured a generation that didn’t accept the norm, that strived for excellence, expected high standards and had the work ethic and resilience to pursue their goals?

Everyone has their own path to tread, but there is also so much to share and learn from others. This is the power of a community school and our diverse and highly skilled community affirms our distinctive identity. It is incredibly important that teachers are able to get to know every child and each family, and that we build a strong, protective and passionate community around our school. Working together, we will make sure that no child is left behind nor any child held back.

Every teacher is unique too, which means that I expect every classroom to have its own character and each teacher will be supported to pass on their love of learning. For example, we will be recruiting teachers who have talents in music, language and outdoor education. They will then cascade their passion to their colleagues to enrich their lessons – for at our school, it is not only the children who will be learning and growing.

Children at Mariposa will love learning because at this school, it is fun. But underneath the fun, we will be making sure that our pupils are equipped to respond to challenges; they have the curiosity to ask questions and a range of skills to seek answers. I love travelling the world, but that world is changing every day. Our children need to have the skills and attitudes to flourish – whatever the future may bring. Secure foundations at school and healthy, happy childhoods will give them the confidence to embrace uncertainty and change asself-assured adults.

Our teaching will centre on pupils participating in real experiences, which evokes natural enquiry and the opportunity to deepen understanding. Mariposa aims not only to provide the highest standard of education but to inspire:

  • Independence
  • Resourcefulness
  • Eloquence
  • Responsibility
  • Confidence
  • Collaboration
  • Friendliness
  • Creativity
  • Reflection
  • Self-belief

Mariposa aims to inspire young people to want to make a difference. To approach life with compassion, respect, integrity, humility and the awareness to want to address the wrongs and model what is right.

This is where Mariposa has come from – what began in response to a shortage in school places has developed into somewhere teachers, parents, children and the wider community can contribute to building the very best school we can. Full of music, language, laughter and belief in a bright future.

We are a new primary school for Harrow families, by Harrow families. We are a partnership for positive change.

I can’t wait to get started.
