How to apply for a place

Mariposa Primary School will admit up to 120 children in September 2018.

  • Up to 60 places for Reception
  • Up to 30 places for Year 1
  • Up to 30 places for Year 3
(Admission of children to Year 3 in 2018 is subject to approval by the Secretary of State.)

When to apply

Applications can be submitted any time before the deadline, which is midnight on Friday 15th January 2018, so don't worry, there will be plenty of time to make your application. Any application received after the deadline will be a late application, which would be considered after those received on time.

Oversubscription Criteria

If we receive more applications than places available, places will be offered based on our oversubscription criteria, which can be found within our admissions arrangements. In summary, these are:

  1. Looked after children and children who were previously looked after
  2. Children with exceptional medical, social or other needs that the school is particularly able to meet
  3. Children who have a sibling at the the school (this will apply once the school is open)
  4. Children of founder parents of Mariposa Primary School
  5. Children of staff who have been recruited to fill a skillshortage area
  6. Children living within 250 metres of the school
  7. Other Children

Where there is a tie-break, children will be selected by random allocation.

Out-of-year admissions and summer born children

Sometimes parents may feel that it is in the child’s best interests to join a year that is different to the ‘normal’ statutory year. This is often the case with children who are summer born or who have been born prematurely.  In this case, you would need to make an ‘out-of-year’ application. We have produced some guidance to help.

How to apply

To apply, please download and complete our Application Form, and send it:

If you are applying for more than one child, you will need to complete one application form per child.

Harrow Council are administering the applications process on our behalf. They will write to you on 16th April 2018 to let you know the outcome of your application and you will have two weeks to decide whether to accept the place.

These will be conditional offers if we do not have a funding agreement in place by that date.

Applying to more than one School

You will need to apply separately for a place at Mariposa Primary School because new schools are not part of the co-ordinated admissions process in their first year.

This means you can also apply for up to six other schools using the usual coordinated admissions process run by Harrow Council.

An application to Mariposa Primary School is an additional 7th application and will not jeopardise any other application that you might make.

If you are fortunate to receive two offers of places on 16th April 2018, you will have two weeks to decide which offer to accept.
